    Ensure accurate and timely processing of collected specimens.


    Education: Bachelor’s degree in a science field preferred (may be required for certain positions)


    Licensure/Certification: ASCP or NCA desirable, other national certifications considered. Medical Assistant-Phlebotomist Certification (Washington State only).


    Experience: New graduates accepted, laboratory experience desirable. Ability to communicate accurately and concisely, verbally and written.  Extreme attention to detail required.


    • Accession specimens, evaluate for needed information, and route specimens as required. 
    • Perform testing protocols including cytology preparation, nucleic acid testing (amplified and non amplified), and special stains as needed. 
    • Operate and maintain automated staining, processing, and analyzing equipment and associated computer systems.  Perform required maintenance routinely and trouble-shooting on such instruments as far as possible.
    • Produce accurate, quality results.
    • Follow written protocols precisely.
    • Store and inventory reagent chemicals and supplies, and recognize needs for additional reagents and supplies.
    • Perform required maintenance of equipment.
    • Perform research on new methods, procedures, or projects as required. Perform special projects as directed by pathologist.
    • Recognize and comply with all quality management requirements.
    • Participate in assigned aspects of proficiency testing.
    • Organize and maintain some clerical work such as MSDS.
    • Maintain a clean and safe working environment at all times.
    • Work with other co-workers to ensure completion of all tasks.
    • Understand and adhere to HIPAA policies, procedures and regulations to assure patient confidentiality.
    • Maintain a safe and clean working environment at all times.
    • Administrative duties including excellent customer service to all patients, clients and employees.
    • Perform other work related duties as assigned.

    This position performs tasks that involve exposure to blood, body fluids and/or tissues. All employees performing these duties are offered the opportunity to receive the Hepatitis-B vaccination series.

    General Physical Requirements

    • Regularly exposed to infection by handling potentially infectious samples.
    • Typically Stands for extended period of times
    • Lift up to 25 pounds.
    • Mobility to climb stairs on a regular basis.
    • Wearing appropriate protective gear: Lab coat, gloves, goggles, and face shield.
