Job Description

Interpath Laboratory is seeking friendly people with great customer service skills and a clean driving record for a Medical Courier position in Spokane, WA. In this position, you will pick up, transport, and deliver medical specimens, lab supplies, and reports. You will also interact with clients and employees in a positive and professional manner.

Pay: $15.74 - $18.79 Per Hour DOE

Location: PSC off of N Division St

 

Responsibilities:

  • Provides excellent customer service to all clients and employees.
  • Ensures punctual collection and delivery of medical specimens, supplies, correspondence, laboratory reports, and other items using approved methods and transport devices.
  • Follows established routes to ensure most efficient ways to safely reach client locations. Recommends more efficient routing when possible.
  • Effectively utilizes digital scanning tools to ensure specimens can be tracked accurately.
  • Performs operator care on assigned vehicles, including inspecting and completing minor maintenance and cleaning.  
  • Maintains confidentiality of the client, patient, and company information at all times. 
  • Answers phones in a timely manner following company standards on proper phone etiquette.
  • Maintains and updates courier schedule and ensures that supervisors are aware of changes.
  • Completes vehicle operation reports, incident reports, and other related documents as required.
  • Cleans and maintains coolers, incubators, and other transport devices.
  • Assists with training of other couriers. 
  • Coordinates unique or off-route pick-ups with Supervisor, Specimen Processing staff, Client Services Department, Laboratory staff, Customers, Clients, and other couriers. 
  • Practices supply conservation, discipline, and resource protection at all times. 
  • Drives company vehicles in accordance with company policies and applicable public rules and regulations. 
  • Understands and adheres to HIPAA policies, procedures, and regulations to assure patient confidentiality. 
  • Attends work regularly and on time.

Minimum Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Education: High school graduate or equivalent 
  • Licensure/Certification: Valid driver’s license with no restrictions 
  • Skills: Navigation, punctuality, and ability to follow detailed instructions

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience: Professional driving experience

General Physical Requirements

  • Frequent lifting up to 30 lbs. Occasional lifting of 30-60 lbs. 
  • Ability to enter and exit assigned vehicle. Able to sit in vehicle/drive for up to 4 hours nonstop. 
  • Ability to load & unload assigned vehicle, with frequent bending involved. 
  • Ability to wear personal protective equipment as needed. 
  • Regularly handle potentially infectious samples. 
  • Ability to drive assigned vehicle in all types of conditions, including built-up areas, freeway, and rural traffic, hours of darkness, and inclement weather. 
  • May be exposed to odorous chemicals and specimens. 
  • Occasional-to-regular kneeling, bending, stooping and twisting to perform vehicle inspections and minor operator maintenance, including changing tires.

OHSA Category: This position performs tasks that involve exposure to blood, body fluids and/or tissues. All employees performing these duties are offered the opportunity to receive the Hepatitis-B vaccination series.
